Did you know that the high-five was invented by Glenn Burke, the first major league baseball player to come out as gay, or that Michelangelo’s grandnephew switched all the masculine pronouns in the great sculptor's romantic poetry to feminine pronouns before publishing them posthumously?
In a time when brands are quietly removing Pride from their calendars and countries are introducing anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation, the Ginger Beers (cockney slang for queer), W+K London’s LGBTQIA+ affinity group, are launching Today Is Gay: a calendar that highlights LGBTQIA+ history – every single day of the year. Because for queer folks, Pride doesn’t just stop at one month. Pride is every single day of the year.
The project, which includes a rainbow-coded google calendar will be made accessible to all W+K LGBTQIA+ employees worldwide.
Meanwhile the public can head to www.todayis.gay to discover what happened on this day in queer history + learn how to create their own rainbow calendar.
